In all the din of attention grabbing social media shite, marketing and brands piggy backing on the back of climbing, and the outdoor lifestyle thing, it's easy to lose sight that there are really not that many climbers on this planet. For example, 55 million Americans went fishing last year, how many went climbing?
Shocked and saddened to hear about Cody. I only followed him on the Insta. plus am only a sporadic visitor to social media. His Tech Tips were always super useful and well explained. However a sad example of why we shouldnt believe that someone's social media profile is a true reflection of the whole person. People can hide so much behind their social media image, we only see the awsome shit and forget that these are real people with real life problems, just like the rest of us. A well written tribute Andy.
Andy when I was writing in my book I was astounded to find that in the UK suicide is the leading form of death for people aged 20 and 34 and men are three times more likely to commit suicide than women. Taking your own life is looked on as a stigma and that I think is the case within the climbing fraternity. Rather than an illness or condition that is just as serious as cancer.
