I found this little slideshow on a memory stick this afternoon, a little music with images from the end of my last (and final) tour back in 2020 (I think). It seems so quaint and of another time now, not something that would get you eyes on Tik-Tok, but then so is the concept of the slideshow, a person standing up on stage and just talking for a few hours about stuff. I retired from public speaking after that tour, after twenty years of effort to get to a level where I could make a living doing it (I could make enough money in one tour not to work until the next one), as the world had changed, and had become too hostile to the dangerous and risky act of one man standing on a stage, taking, without a script or in fear of the censors. I wasn't just the stress of fearing you might offend someone, it was the stress of other people feeling stressed you might offend someone. I suppose I could just have made it more scripted and kept it clean, like it was for kids, or nuns, or Stazi agents, or wore a body cam in order to defend myself, or 'explain what you mean'. But I think I'd rather just do what most of us do these days, which is rather than think about everything you say, just your words to yourself.
Did not expect to be seeing a few of the spots I regularly climb at show up in the first few seconds of that slideshow.. altho I recall you writing about having friends in South Africa, very nice. There's a pic in there that looks a lot like camping out in the Drakensberg - I don't suppose you did any climbing while out there?
